NASSAU, Bahamas – Only months after launching its platform, pioneering telecoms firm Global Nexus (GNX) faced the ultimate test – and passed with flying colors.
On Thursday, October 6, the island of New Providence was struck by fearsome Category 4 Hurricane Matthew. The first storm of this strength to hit the island in nearly a century, Matthew brought gusts reached 140 miles per hour, extreme flooding and island-wide destruction.
With trees and power lines severely affected by the winds, most communication systems experienced service outages, but GNX was able to keep its systems live throughout the storm.
Customer John Stevens of Atlantic Medical Insurance Limited praised the communications company on its reliability, commenting that, “Atlantic Medical didn’t lose connectivity during the storm at all.”
GNX Chairman Sir William Allen praised the company for its work in developing a dependable network that can stand up to such extreme conditions.
“In telecommunications, the importance of a reliable network which can stand up to the
unique challenges posed by the Caribbean climate cannot be overstated,” he said.
“I am proud of the staff here for recognizing this during the building and development stages of the network, creating a system that our Bahamian clients can really depend on”
Global Nexus provides both local and global business-focused services including Internet, voice and cloud-enabled services.
“Global Nexus is looking forward to an exciting year ahead,” Sir William added, “and I believe this test has proven that our company is well positioned for the further international expansion within the industry we hope to move forward with. We look forward to continuing success and growth in the months and years to come.”
A privately held corporation headquartered in Nassau, Global Nexus was launched a time when the need for reliable, fast and affordable Internet, voice, WAN (wide area networking) and other cloud services has never been higher.
The company’s strategy is to position itself as a “neutral carrier” and work cooperatively with partners and potentially other carriers to deliver technologically advanced and groundbreaking services.
